CMCA show: The Center fo Maine Contemporary Art

This Saturday was one of many highlights in my career as I packed up the family in the van and headed north to the Center for Maine Contemporary Art in beautiful Rockport, ME.  The CMCA is currently exhibiting work by my friend Paul Oberst in a show called Banded Artifacts/Banded Men and Saturday marked the opening of the event.  Mixed in with Paul's sculptures and paintings were a number of photographs that Paul and I have been collaborating on for our ongoing "Banded" series.  The body of work documents different decades in man's life and loosely pays homage to the clown/trickster gods of the the Southwest.  We have three more decades of man that we want to cover before we move on to women.  The body of work is getting larger all the time but you can catch a glimpse of it now at the CMCA.  The show runs until September 25th, so you still have plenty of time to drop by and see our work.  To see more "Banded" images, check out our self published book on Blurb.

The Jenks Family portrait session

I got a call one day from Danielle and Willie, a couple from Cleavland, Ohio who were planning their very first visit to Maine.  I'm always so prideful of our state when I hear about first time visits and I started gushing with local information like I was the local Chamber of Commerce on steroids.  The first right choice they made was to stay at The Beachmere Inn in Ogunquit.  In my humble opinion, The Beachmere Inn has the best view in Ogunquit, hands down.  It sits along The Marginal Way situated halfway between the downtown area and Perkins Cove, making either choice a short walk away.  The second correct choice of course was connecting with me (he said humbly) for a family portrait session.  I always try to plan for that beautiful late afternoon/pre sunset light for my portrait sessions but was a bit hesitant to shoot that late with Hannah, their two year old.  Little ones are usually toast after dinner hour and are only interested in food, sleep or both.  Dramatic lighting won't save a shoot if the child is frowning, crying or worse.  As it turns out however, Willie manages the Club House for the Cleavland Indians during their home games and the whole family is used to keeping very odd hours.  Danielle assured me that shooting at the magic light hour would not be a problem.  A mom knows her child best and I'm so happy I listened to her.  We enjoyed one of those quintessentially beautiful summer evenings, starting out at The Beachmere and then continuing on Ogunquit beach.  Terrific light, warm water, a beautiful sunset and a deliriously happy two year old who got to get wet and sandy.  Another perfect portrait session with a lovely family enjoying some of what Maine has to offer.  Hope to see you guys again next year!

Pualani's Senior Portraits

I was recently contacted by Pualani's parents who wanted to have Senior photos done of their daughter, before she heads back to Hawaii to start her final year of High School.  I love shooting Seniors, they have great energy, great ideas and love the idea of location hopping to get some killer results.  As you can see with Pualani, we didn't let the fact that the sun had gone down stop us from finding some more opportunities to create some stunning images.  Good luck with everything this year has in store for you Pua!

Katie & Glen at The Dockside Guest Quarters in York Harbor, Maine

Venue:  The Dockside Guest Quarters, York Harbor, Maine
Florist:  Brenda's Bloomers

Katie & Glen recently held a quiet ceremony at the beautiful Dockside Guest Quarters in York Harbor, Maine.  I love the relaxed atmosphere at these intimate celebrations.  It's more like an elegant lawn party, where the bride and groom really get an opportunity to enjoy the moment and not feel as though they are being pulled in a hundred different directions.  Congratulations guys!

Catie and Tim's wedding ~ The Meeting House, York Beach, Maine

Church: The Star of the Sea
Reception Venue: The Meeting House
Band: The Brandy Band
Florist: York Flower Shop
Transportation: York Trolley
Second Photographer: Joseph Dupont Photography
Videographer: Adam Flaherty of  AF Media, LLC

Watercolor Stationery: Griffin.vites

Catie and Tim live in Germany where Tim is a professional hockey player.  They came to back to beautiful York, Maine however where Catie's parents live, to celebrate their wedding day.  With all the rain that we've suffered through this spring, we were lucky enough to avoid the wet stuff during their big day.  The Brandy Band was rocking it out all afternoon and evening and the crew at The Meeting House performed their usual white glove service and knocked it out of the park with a terrific feast.  One of the highlights for me was having the opportunity to shoot the bride and groom driving off in her fathers prized vintage MG.  I wish I could take it along to all my weddings!  A special thanks goes out to my Second Photographer, right arm and good friend, Joeseph Dupont.  His terrific eye always helps add another artistic perspective to our documentation.  Click on the link to see the slide show of their big day and enjoy!
